It is exciting to embark on a new opportunity to communicate with the intranet community in developing new thinking and making strategic and tactical decisions. I encourage you to contact Jane or me with ideas for articles, questions you have, and any other feedback.

This first issue of 2002 is a compendium of innovative thinkers. Steve Arnold's article highlights current thinking about portal platforms and upcoming technology opportunities. Steve provides critical insight to the platform decisions before us as we enter a new era of technology development. John Quirk provides a framework to define an enterprise portal project. His article focuses our thinking on the business review of portal adoption and is a perfect how-to in scoping out a portal project. We begin a two-part series on categorization written by Tom Reamy. Reamy discusses the strengths and weaknesses of auto-categorization, automatic versus humanatic categorization, and in part 2 proposes a combination he calls "cyborg categorization."

Enjoy the issue. I look forward to hearing from you. All signs point to a year of great thinking, learning, doing, and strategizing.
